Supporters of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, under the aegis of Tinubu Support Organisation (TSO) and Northern Young Professionals for Tinubu (NYPT), have rejected “plots” by some elements in the party to nominate the APC 2023 presidential candidate through consensus.

They said Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State has a great vision for Nigeria and should be compensated for the role he played in the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

Reading a text of the press conference signed by National Coordinators of NYPT and TSO, Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai and Aminu Suleiman on Wednesday in Abuja, Yakasai said some elements in the APC were plotting a consensus within the party against Tinubu.

“The party cannot afford at this time to allow some few selfish individuals to circumvent the universal practice of due process and the laid down rules as contained in our party’s constitution for picking candidates for various elective positions to contest election on the party’s platform.

“We see such machinations being orchestrated by enemies within the party to undermine the ambitions of our principal, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“This is a man who was instrumental towards the merger of CPC, ACN, ANPP, and APGA in 2014 which became the APC of today; a party that dislodged a ruling party, the PDP, something that was never done in the history of our political journey.

“Yesterday (Tuesday) President Muhammadu Buhari during his speech made it clear that we need someone who is strong enough to deliver the party in the general election. But some people have decided to twist the statement of Mr President that he was calling for consensus.

“We also want to use this opportunity to call on our delegates especially from Northern Nigeria to please, avoid being induced or intimidated by going with their conscience and vote for a man that is strong enough to give us a sense of victory.

“Everyone even on the streets knows that it’s Asiwaju that can garner the support of the masses to lead APC to victory at the general election,” he said.
